Lance Bowen was raised in Alaska. Growing up in an isolated rural town, he learned early on the value of hard work, ingenuity and education. He completed graduate school in Reno, Nev., and began teaching in the Biology department at Truckee Meadows Community College in 2001. He subsequently completed his doctorate and moved on to become the dean of science at the same college. Bowen moved to Maryland in 2017, where he took on the role of dean of the School of Science, Technology and Education at AACC. The school includes departments in Biology, Physical Sciences, Education, Computer Science, Cybersecurity Networking and Digital Forensics, Computer Information Systems, Engineering and Architecture.
He is currently leading several initiatives to support undergraduate research at AACC, including the AACC Journal of Emerging Scholarship, writing grants to fund undergraduate research, developing university research partnerships and collaboration, and working on building scholarships for STEM students.
Bowen is always happy to meet with students about research opportunities at AACC or about the School of Science, Technology and Education.
